What can a live page keep: its own files and saved data?

A live page can keep its own saved data and its own files, separate from your File manager. Here is who can add, see and delete them, and the size limits.

Besides the numbers it shows, a live page can keep two things of its own: Saved data, such as a sign-up sheet, a poll or a list of notes, and Files, such as an image, a PDF or a CSV that the page uses. Both are kept inside the page, not in your File manager. These steps are for the web app. On the phone, the same switches are in the page's Permissions.

Select Permissions above the page to see them. It appears only when you are signed in. Under On this page, Saved data and Files show up only when the page uses them, and each has a switch. For how the rest of this panel works, read How do live pages work?.

Saved data

Saved data lasts between visits. The page's creator decides who may read it and who may write it, when the page is made:

  • Reading: by default, anyone who can open the page can read it, including people with a link who aren't signed in.
  • Writing: by default, only people who are signed in and can interact with the page. Someone who isn't signed in can read but can't change anything.
  • Each person's private part: every signed-in person also has a part of the saved data that only they can read and write. The page's creator can't see it either.

Limits:

  • Each entry can be up to 1 MB.
  • A page can hold up to 20 MB of saved data and 25,000 entries.
  • Each person can save up to 60 times a minute on one page.

Saved data follows the reading rules above. By default, that means anyone with a link to the page can read it, so keep anything private out of it unless the page's creator has set stricter rules.

With Saved data switched off, the page can still show what is saved, but it can't save changes as you.

Files

Files are the things a page uses to look or work: pictures (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or SVG), videos (MP4 or WebM), PDFs, web fonts (WOFF2, WOFF, TTF or OTF), CSV, JSON, Markdown and plain text files, and the style (CSS) and script (JavaScript) files that make the page look and behave as it does. SVG pictures are checked and cleaned before the page keeps them. Word files, Excel files and archives aren't accepted here. To show a spreadsheet that's already in your File manager, read the section Pages over your files in How do live pages work?.

Limits:

  • Each file can be up to 20 MB. CSS and JavaScript files can be up to 16 MB, and SVG pictures up to 2 MB.
  • A page can hold up to 500 files and 200 MB of files in total.
  • Each person can add up to 30 files a minute to one page.

Who may add files: by default, only people who can edit the page, which means you and anyone with edit access to it. The page can also let signed-in people who can interact with it add files. That is set when the page is made, so say so when you ask Bluedeer for the page. Someone who isn't signed in can't add files.

Who can see them: anyone who can open the page can open its files, including people with a link who aren't signed in. Files a page keeps don't show in your File manager.

Who can list and delete them: people who can edit the page see every file on the page and can delete any of them. A person who can add files to the page sees and deletes only the files they added themselves.

With Files switched off, the page can still show its files and list the ones you can see, but it can't add or delete files as you.
