Bluedeer reads a file the same way whether you attach it to a message or it is already in the File manager.
What it reads
- Text, Markdown, code, CSV, JSON and HTML files: exactly as they are written.
- PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files: their text. Bluedeer knows which page, sheet or slide each part comes from, so it can tell you where it found something.
- Images: a model that can see images looks at the image itself. Other models get a description of it.
- Voice messages and audio files: Bluedeer reads what was said.
- Videos: not read.
Long documents
Bluedeer can read every page of a long document, however many pages it has. When you attach one, it starts with the first part and reads on when it needs to. You can ask for a part directly, for example "What does page 120 say?", "Read the Budget sheet" or "Find where the contract mentions penalties", and Bluedeer goes to that page or searches the whole document.
In a spreadsheet, Bluedeer reads up to 100,000 rows of each sheet and up to 2,000,000 cells of the whole workbook. If a workbook is bigger, Bluedeer says where it stopped.
Scanned PDFs
A scanned PDF holds pictures of its pages, not text. Bluedeer cannot take text out of those pictures. If the AI model you chose can read PDF files, Bluedeer gives it the PDF itself, so the model can look at the pages. Otherwise Bluedeer tells you the PDF is scanned, and you can switch to a model that reads PDF files. When only some pages of a PDF are scanned, Bluedeer reads the others and says which pages it could not read.
What it leaves out
- In Word files: headers, footers, footnotes and comments.
- In PowerPoint files: speaker notes, and text inside charts and pictures.
If a file is damaged or protected by a password, or takes more than a minute to read, Bluedeer says so instead of guessing.
Each file can be up to 25 MB. To attach files, see How do I add files, voice messages or @ mentions to a message?
