Moving from ChatGPT or Claude? You can bring your past conversations into Bluedeer, so they are there to read, search and continue.
Get your export
From ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Data controls.
- Choose Export data, then Confirm export.
- OpenAI emails you a link. Download the .zip file. The link works for 24 hours.
From Claude
- On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, open Settings → Privacy.
- Choose Export data.
- Anthropic emails you a link. Download the .zip file. The link works for 24 hours.
Keep the file as it is: don't unzip it.
Import it
When you sign in to a new Bluedeer account for the first time, Bluedeer offers Moving from ChatGPT or Claude? Bring your chats. You can import there, or choose Skip for now; it isn't offered again after that. Accounts made before this offer existed don't see it. Everyone can import any time:
- Web: Settings → AI & Chat → Import chats.
- Phone: Settings → AI & Chat → Import chats. The phone opens the system file picker, so the .zip can come from Files, iCloud Drive or another app.
- If you work in a shared workspace, choose where the chats go under Import into. They go to your Personal workspace unless you choose a shared workspace where you have a seat.
- Choose Choose export file and pick the .zip.
- Bluedeer uploads the file and imports it in the background. You can close the window: the import keeps going, and you can follow it again in Import chats.
When it's done, Bluedeer shows how many chats and messages were added, and anything it couldn't bring in.
What comes across
- Each chat keeps its title and its original dates, and the messages keep the order and times they had.
- Code, and code that ChatGPT ran with its output, comes across as code blocks.
- Pictures and files that are in a ChatGPT export are added to Files → Imported chats and shown in the messages. They count toward your storage. A file over 25 MB, a type Bluedeer can't store, or one that doesn't fit in your storage is left out, and the chat says which.
- Claude exports don't include the files you uploaded, so the chat notes their names instead.
- If you edited a message or asked for another reply, ChatGPT and Claude keep several versions. Bluedeer imports the version you last saw and leaves the others out. The chat says so.
- Projects come across as Bluedeer projects in the workspace you import into, visible only to you (see below).
- Imported chats are marked Imported from ChatGPT or Imported from Claude, with the date they were started there. They appear in your chat list with their old dates, so they sit among your older chats. Search the chat list by title or by words in the messages to find one, or choose Show more chats to load older chats.
Projects
- ChatGPT: chats that were in a ChatGPT project go into one Bluedeer project per ChatGPT project. ChatGPT's export doesn't include project names, instructions or project files, so the projects are called ChatGPT project 1, ChatGPT project 2 and so on. Rename them in Projects; the new name stays when you import again.
- Claude: each project comes across with its name, description, instructions and knowledge files. Claude's export holds the text of knowledge files, not the files themselves, so a PDF or document comes across as a text file with its words, in Files → Imported chats and in the project. Claude's export doesn't say which chats were in a project, so those chats are added outside projects; use Move to project in a chat's menu to put them in one. Claude's starter project is left out.
- A project's memories from a Claude export are saved into that project when you tick them.
- If the workspace already has as many projects as it can hold, the chats are added without a project, and Bluedeer tells you.
Memories
If your Claude export has saved memories, Bluedeer lists them after the import. Tick the ones you want Bluedeer to remember and choose Save memories, or choose Don't import memories. Nothing is saved until you choose. ChatGPT exports don't include your saved memories; you can add them yourself in Memory.
Importing again
You can import again whenever you like, for example a newer export after you kept using ChatGPT or Claude for a while. Nothing is added twice:
- Bluedeer recognises each chat by the ID ChatGPT or Claude gave it, and each message by its own ID there.
- A chat you imported before gets only the messages added since, at its end. Anything you wrote in it in Bluedeer stays where it is, and the new messages come after it.
- New chats are added, and chats with nothing new are left alone.
- If you edited a message or asked for another reply in ChatGPT or Claude after your last import, the newer version is added at the end of the chat, with a note saying so. The messages you imported before stay.
- A chat you deleted in Bluedeer stays deleted. A chat you moved to another project stays there. A project you renamed or changed keeps your changes, and new chats from it go into it. If you deleted the project, Bluedeer creates it again and puts its chats back in it, both the new ones and the ones you imported before (unless you've since moved one to another project or shared it).
Imports belong to the workspace you choose. Importing the same export into Personal and into a shared workspace gives you a copy in each.
Undo an import
Open Import chats, choose the import under Your imports, then Undo import. Bluedeer removes the chats it added, including anything you wrote in them since, the messages it added to chats from an earlier import, and the files and memories it brought in. It also removes the projects it created (chats from an earlier import that were in one go back to having no project), unless you've put something of your own in one (a chat, a file, a task or a memory): that project is kept, and Bluedeer tells you. You can import the export again afterwards.
Limits and cost
- Importing is free on every plan and doesn't use your allowance.
- One export can be up to 50 MB for now. If yours is larger, Bluedeer tells you before uploading. Importing bigger exports is coming in a later update.
- Pictures and files from ChatGPT count toward your plan's storage, like any file.
Privacy
Your export is used only to add these chats. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the import finishes, whether it succeeds or not, and nothing in it is used for anything else.
