A custom connector lets the assistant use another service's tools, such as Linear or Notion, while it answers you. In the app you add, change and remove your own connectors under Manage workspace. The same rules apply as on the web. Read Who can add connectors and which plan you need first if you are not sure you can add one.
Before you start
- In a personal workspace, custom connectors need the Pro plan or above.
- In a shared workspace, you need a seat in that workspace. The owner or an admin must also first turn on custom connectors for the workspace, under Integrations at the bottom of the Connections tab. Until they do, the app shows "Custom connectors are turned off in this workspace", and there is no Add connector button.
- Only you can use the connectors you add. Each person adds and connects their own. You can add up to 20 connectors in each workspace.
Open your connectors
- On Home, tap the button at the top right. It opens the account menu.
- Tap Manage workspace.
- Open the Connections tab. Your connectors are listed under Your connectors. Tap one to open it.
Add a connector
- Under Your connectors, tap Add connector.
- In Name, enter a name for the connector, such as Linear. It can be up to 60 characters.
- In MCP server URL, enter the address of the service's connector. It must start with https, such as
https://mcp.example.com/mcp. - In the Sign-in section, choose the sign-in type under How Bluedeer signs in to it. The three options are described below.
- Tap Connect. While it works, the button says Connecting…. With No sign-in or API token, Bluedeer contacts the service, reads its tools and saves the connector. With Sign in with the provider (OAuth), Bluedeer saves the connector turned off, and then asks you to connect your account.
Connect stays grey until the name and the address are filled in, and, for API token, until the header or field name and the token are filled in. If the connector can't be saved, nothing is saved, and the reason appears above the button, so you can correct the details and tap Connect again.
The sign-in types
-
No sign-in. Use this when the service needs no credentials. There is nothing else to fill in.
-
API token. Under Send the token in, choose A request header (the usual choice) or The request body. Then fill in:
- Header name, or Field name if you chose the request body.
- Text before the token (optional), such as
Bearer(with a space at the end). Leave it empty if the service doesn't want any text in front of the token. - Token. The token is hidden as you type.
When you switch where the token goes, the app fills in the usual header or field name for that place, and the text before the token, as long as the name is still the standard one. A name you typed is kept. You can change any of them.
-
Sign in with the provider (OAuth). After you save, you connect your own account at the service. Only you can use the connector through your sign-in. If you have your own OAuth app for this service, tap Advanced: use your own OAuth client, then fill in Client ID, Client secret and Scopes, separated by spaces. Tap Hide advanced to close these fields. If you don't have one, leave them alone.
After you save
- With no sign-in or an API token, the page titled Connector shows CONNECTED and lists the connector's tools, all turned on. Tap Done.
- With sign-in at the provider, the page shows ONE MORE STEP and "Connect your [name] account." Tap Connect your account. The service's sign-in opens in your browser. Sign in with your own account, then come back to the app. The page updates when you return and says "Signed in. The connector is ready." If you want to finish later, tap Later. The connector stays turned off until you connect your account.
The tools of a connector that needs sign-in are listed after you connect your account.
Check and change a connector
Tap a connector under Your connectors to open it. The Status section shows one of these:
- Connected as you. The connector works with your own account.
- Off. You turned the connector off.
- Not connected. Your account at the service isn't connected yet, or the sign-in has expired. Tap Connect your account.
- Can't connect. Bluedeer could not reach the connector or read its tools. The last error is shown in red under the status.
The line beside the status shows how many tools are on, such as "3 of 5 tools on", or "No tools".
Under Manage you can:
- Turned on. Switch it off to stop the assistant using this connector's tools. The switch is greyed out until your account is connected.
- Test connection. Checks that Bluedeer can reach the connector. A working connector shows "Connection works" with the number of tools. If it fails, the reason is shown.
- Refresh tools. Reads the tool list again. The result says "Tools are up to date.", or how many tools were added and how many were removed. New tools are turned on and follow your rules.
- Edit. Opens Edit connector, where you can change the name, the address and the sign-in. Tap Save when you are done. Leave the token field empty to keep the saved token. It shows "Saved. Leave empty to keep it."
- Disconnect. Only shown for a connector that signs in at the provider, once your account is connected. It removes your sign-in at the service. The connector and its tool settings stay, so you can connect again later.
- Remove connector. Asks "Remove [name]?" first. Tap Remove connector to confirm, or Cancel to keep it. Removing it also removes your sign-in. The assistant stops using its tools straight away, in your chats and scheduled tasks in this workspace.
Choose which tools the assistant can use
The Tools section lists every tool the connector offers, with a short description.
- Use the On switch next to a tool to turn it on or off. A tool that is off is never offered to the assistant.
- Tap Turn all on or Turn all off to change every tool at once.
- Next to each tool that is on, the app shows Ask first or Don't ask. Tap it, or Change, to open Settings where you set the rule. A tool that only reads starts at Don't ask. The other tools start at Ask first. The same rules are in Settings, under Action confirmations. Read What are action confirmations and approval cards? for more.
- Tap Ask first settings to go to those rules.
If the connector doesn't list any tools, tap Refresh tools. If the list is still empty, the service may not offer any tools.
If live pages are allowed to use this connector's tools without asking, they are listed under Pages allowed to use it. Tap Remove next to a page to take its permission back. It will ask again the next time you open that page.
If you can't add or connect
- There is no Add connector button. Check that you are on the Pro plan or above in a personal workspace. In a shared workspace, the owner or an admin must have turned on custom connectors under Integrations, at the bottom of the Connections tab. Without a seat in that workspace, you can't add one either. The button is also hidden once you have 20 connectors in the workspace. Remove one to add another.
- Connect stays grey. Fill in the name and the address. For an API token, fill in the header or field name and the token too.
- The connector can't be reached, or the sign-in doesn't finish. Read Why won't my connector connect or sign in?.
