Auto top-up

Buy more extra usage by itself when the balance runs low, set its limits, and what happens when a payment doesn't go through.

Auto top-up buys more extra usage for you when the balance falls below an amount you choose. It uses a card that Stripe saved when you added funds.

Turn it on

  1. Add funds once on the web and tick Save the card for auto top-up. Read Add funds.
  2. In Manage workspace, select Extra usage.
  3. Under Auto top-up, choose:
    • When it falls below: from $2 to $50.
    • Buy: the amount to add each time.
    • At most per month and Top-ups per month: the most auto top-up spends in a calendar month. By default that is 3 top-ups or $100, whichever comes first.
  4. Turn on Top up by itself.

The top-up happens in the background, a moment after the balance falls below your amount. Your chats never wait for it.

Auto top-up also buys once when the balance is above your amount but too small for your next message, if one pack covers what that message needs and the month's At most per month and Top-ups per month limits have room for it.

In a shared workspace

Auto top-up in a shared workspace uses the billing owner's own saved card. Only the billing owner can turn it on or change its limits. Other owners and admins can only turn it off or remove the card.

When a payment doesn't go through

  • Your bank asks you to confirm the payment. Auto top-up pauses. Bluedeer tells you in your Inbox and by email, with a button to confirm the payment on Stripe's page. Once you confirm it, the extra usage is added and auto top-up starts again.
  • The card is declined. Nothing is charged and auto top-up turns itself off. Bluedeer tells you in your Inbox and by email. Check the card, then turn auto top-up on again.
  • The payment is disputed with the bank. The card is removed, and auto top-up turns off. Bluedeer tells you in your Inbox. If the dispute is won, the extra usage taken back is given back.

These emails are always sent, because extra usage may stop without them.

Remove the card

Select Remove card under Auto top-up. Stripe deletes the saved card and auto top-up turns off.
