When you add a custom connector that signs in at the provider, Bluedeer normally registers its own sign-in app with the service automatically. Some services do not allow that. They ask you to create a sign-in app yourself and give you its details. In that case, use the advanced option described here. For the rest of adding a connector, read How do I add a custom connector?.
Custom connectors need the Pro plan or higher in a personal workspace. In a shared workspace you need a seat, and the owner or an admin must have turned on Custom connectors under Integrations. Read Who can add connectors and which plan you need.
What you need before you start
- A sign-in app registered with the service. Create it on the service's developer or app settings page. The service gives you a Client ID. Some services also give you a Client secret.
- The scopes. These are the permissions the service lists for its app, such as read or write access. Use the names exactly as the service writes them. If you are not sure which to use, leave the field empty.
- Bluedeer's return address. When you create the app, the service asks for a redirect address, sometimes called a callback URL. It is the Bluedeer server address followed by
/integrations/mcp/oauth/callback. The app does not show this address, so if you don't know the server address, write to [email protected] and ask for the full address before you create the app. Enter it exactly as given.
Add the connector with your own app
Follow the steps in How do I add a custom connector? until you choose the sign-in type. Then:
On the web:
- In Sign-in, choose Sign in with the provider (OAuth).
- Open Advanced: use your own OAuth client.
- In Client ID, enter the Client ID from the service.
- In Client secret, enter the secret, if the service gave you one.
- In Scopes, separated by spaces, enter the scopes with a space between each one.
- Select Connect.
On the phone, the same fields are under Advanced: use your own OAuth client in the connector form. See Add and manage custom connectors on the phone.
Bluedeer saves the connector. It stays off until you sign in, so a dialog asks you to sign in at the provider. Select Sign in (on the phone, Connect your account), finish the steps at the service, and come back. If the dialog closes, select Connect your account on the connector.
What each field does
- Client ID is needed for this option. Leave the whole advanced section closed if you don't have one.
- Client secret is optional. Enter it only if the service gave you one. If you enter a secret, you must also enter the Client ID, or saving fails with "An OAuth client secret needs its client ID." Bluedeer stores the secret encrypted.
- Scopes are optional. If you leave them empty, Bluedeer asks for the scopes that the service says it supports. Separate them with spaces, not commas.
Each person who adds a connector enters these details on their own connector. Other people in the workspace cannot see them.
If the sign-in fails
- The service shows an error about the redirect or callback address. Check that Bluedeer's return address is added to the app exactly as given, including https and the full path.
- The service says the client is not recognised, or the sign-in is refused. Copy the Client ID and secret again from the service, with nothing before or after them, then select Edit on the connector and enter them again.
- The connector cannot sign in at all. Bluedeer needs the service to support the newer sign-in safety check that it uses. If the service does not offer it, the connector cannot be used.
After you fix the problem, select Connect your account on the connector to try again. If it still fails, read Why won't my connector connect or sign in?.
