Search and sorting work on the list you are looking at. These steps are for the web app. On the phone, see the last section.
Search a folder
Open a folder in the File manager. Type in the Search this folder box above the list. The list shows only the files in that folder that match what you typed.
A file matches when its name or its extension contains what you typed. Folders match by their name. Upper and lower case do not matter, and spaces at the start or end of the box are ignored. For example, typing budget finds "Budget 2026.xlsx", and typing pdf finds every PDF file in the folder.
Search looks only in the folder you are viewing. It does not look inside its subfolders, and it does not look inside the files themselves. If nothing matches, the list says No files match with what you typed.
To clear the search, delete the text in the box. Your search is cleared when you open another folder.
Search a project's files
Open a project and type in Search this project’s files. A project's files are not kept in folders, so the search covers every file in the project. It works the same way: it matches the name or the extension.
Sort the list
Click a column heading to sort by it:
- Name sorts A to Z. Numbers count in order, so "File 2" comes before "File 10".
- Type sorts by the file's extension, A to Z.
- Modified sorts by the date and time the file was last changed, oldest first.
- Size sorts by how big the file is, smallest first.
The list starts sorted by Name, A to Z. Click a different heading to sort by it. Click the heading that is already in use to reverse the order. An arrow next to the heading shows which column is in use and which way it runs.
Your sort stays the same when you open another folder or project.
Folders always come first
Whatever column you sort by, folders are listed before files. Within the folders, and within the files, the sort you chose applies. Folders have no size, so sorting by Size only changes the order of the files.
On the phone
In the Files tab, type in the Search files and folders… box to filter the folder you are in. It matches names and extensions in the same way as the web app. The list always shows folders first, then files, sorted from A to Z by name. The phone has no column headings to sort by.
What search does not do yet
- It does not search inside the text of your files.
- It does not search across all your folders at once. Search a project to cover all of its files.
To change a file once you have found it, see Rename, move or delete a file. To keep files tidy, see Organise files with folders.
