How do I rename, move or delete a file?

Use a file's menu in the File manager to rename it, move it to a folder or delete it, and know who is allowed to do each.

These steps are for the web app. You need edit access to a file to rename or move it.

Rename a file

  1. Choose Rename from the file's menu.
  2. In the Rename file window, change the File name.
  3. Click Rename.

Move a file

Choose Move to folder from the file's menu, then pick the folder. See Organise files with folders.

Delete a file

  1. Choose Delete from the file's menu, or select files and click Delete in the bar above the list.
  2. In the Delete window, click Delete.

Deleting a file is permanent. If the file has more than one version, the window lists the versions and lets you tick only the ones you want to delete. See How do I see earlier versions of a file?

Who can do this in a team

In a team workspace, members can delete and share only the files they created. Team admins and the owner can manage any file. Viewers can open files but cannot delete them.
