# How do I share a file from the phone?

Share a file from Files in the phone app by inviting people, choosing its general access, copying its link, and revoking links.

The phone app has the same Share window for files as the web app, opened in a different way. This page covers the phone steps and what the phone shows. For the full rules about guests, roles and general access, see [How do I share a file?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/sharing/share-a-file.md)

## Open the Share window

1. Open **Files** and find the file.
2. Tap the **More actions** button (three dots) on its row, then tap **Share**.

You can also press and hold a file to select it. When one file is selected, a people button appears in the bar above the list. Tap it to open the same window.

The window is titled **Share** followed by the file's name.

## Who can change sharing

In a shared workspace, only the person who added the file can change who can open it or create its links. Workspace admins and the owner can't do this for someone else's file. Editors can save new versions of a file they can edit, but they cannot change its sharing.

Anyone else who can open the file sees **Who has access** in the file's menu instead of **Share**. That window shows the same list of people, but nothing in it can be changed.

## Invite people

Type names or email addresses under **Add people**. In a personal workspace, the field is **Add people by email**.

In a shared workspace, the role menu next to the **Invite** button sets the role for the people you add. Choose **Editor** or **Viewer**, then tap **Invite**.

- Members of the workspace get the role you chose. **Editor** can rename, move and save new versions. **Viewer** can open and download.
- Anyone outside the workspace is added as a **Guest**, who can only view. If the workspace doesn't allow sharing with people outside it, the app says so, and only members can be added.
- We email guests a link when we can. If we can't, the app says so and offers **Copy their link**.

## People with access and general access

Under **People with access**, the owner is listed first, marked **Owner**. Members and guests follow. Guests have a **Guest** tag. To change someone's role, tap the role shown beside their name. To take their access away, choose **Remove access**. A guest can only be a Viewer.

Under **General access**, tap the box to choose who else can open the file:

- **Only you**, or **Only people invited** once you have invited someone: nobody else can open it.
- **Anyone at** followed by your workspace's name, such as **Anyone at Acme**: everyone in the workspace can open it. It starts as **Viewer**. The role menu beside it can change it to **Editor**. This choice only appears in a shared workspace.
- **Anyone with the link**: anyone on the internet who has the link can view the file. Its role is always Viewer. If the workspace's sharing settings don't allow it, the option is greyed out and the app says why.

In a personal workspace, the choices are **Only you** and **Anyone with the link**.

## Copy a link

Tap **Copy link**. The button shows **Copied** for a moment. What it copies depends on general access:

- With **Anyone with the link** chosen, it copies the link anyone can open.
- Otherwise it copies a link that opens only for people who already have access. In a personal workspace where you have invited people by email, it copies the link of the first person you invited.

To share the file as it is now, tap the arrow next to **Copy link** and choose **Copy a snapshot link**. A snapshot shows the latest saved version of the file, and later changes don't appear in it. A file with no saved version yet can't have a snapshot, and the app says so.

## Revoke links

Links other than the main one are listed under **Snapshot links**, or under **Other links** when other kinds of link are listed too. To stop one, or to turn off the link for anyone, see [How do I stop sharing a file or chat?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/sharing/stop-sharing-a-file-or-chat.md)

## Workspace sharing rules

In a shared workspace, the owner and admins decide what sharing is allowed for everyone. If a rule blocks something, the app says why. For example, it may say that links for anyone are turned off in the workspace, or that the workspace doesn't allow sharing with people outside it. For the rules and where to change them, see [Set workspace share link rules](https://support.bluedeer.ai/team/administration/team-share-link-rules.md).
