# How do I send a voice message?

Explains how to record, lock, pause, cancel and send a voice message from the chat composer.

A voice message is a recording you attach to your message. Bluedeer transcribes the recording so the assistant can read what you said. The app asks for microphone access the first time you record. See the Android or iPhone article for the details.

The microphone button appears at the right of the message box when the box is empty. When you type text, the button becomes the send button.

## Record hands-free

1. Tap the microphone button.
2. The recording starts and keeps going until you stop it.
3. To pause, tap the pause button. Tap the play button to resume.
4. Tap the stop button to finish. The recording is attached to your message.

## Record by holding the button

1. Press the microphone button and slide your finger up. This works only when the message box is empty and nothing is attached.
2. When the lock closes, let go. The recording keeps going without you holding the button.
3. If you let go before the lock closes, the recording stops and is attached to your message.

## Cancel, send or remove

- Tap the cancel button on the left of the recording bar to discard the recording.
- Tap the send button to send your message with the recording.
- A recording stops on its own when it reaches the maximum length, and is attached in the same way.

The attached recording appears as a tag above the message box. To record again, remove the tag first.
