# How do I know what is new in my Inbox?

How the Inbox marks items as read, what the New tag and the number next to Inbox mean, and why an item or a count may not match what you expect.

The **Inbox** lists task results, things that need you, and notices from teammates. This article explains which items count as new, when they stop being new, and why an item or a number can look different from what you expect. It describes the web app. On the phone, invitations are tracked on the device and can be dismissed there, so the phone's number can differ from the web's.

## Each workspace has its own Inbox

The Inbox shows the workspace you have selected. Its name is written under the **Inbox** heading. Your **Personal** workspace and each shared workspace keep their items apart, so a notice from a team does not appear in your Personal Inbox, and your Personal items do not appear in a team's Inbox. To see another workspace's items, switch to it first. See [What a workspace is and how to switch to it](https://support.bluedeer.ai/team/general/what-a-team-workspace-is.md).

Invitations are the one exception. An invitation to join a team is not tied to a workspace, so it appears under **Needs you** whichever workspace you have selected.

## The New tag

An item you have not seen yet has a **New** tag next to its label. Opening the Inbox page marks items as read, up to the newest item on the page. Anything that arrives after that point stays new until the Inbox shows it.

The **New** tag can stay on screen while you are still on the page. It disappears when the list loads again, for example the next time you open the Inbox.

Invitations do not carry the **New** tag. They are counted as described below.

## The number next to Inbox

The sidebar shows a number next to **Inbox** when something is waiting for you. The number is made of two parts:

- the unread items in the workspace you have selected, and
- invitations you have not seen yet in this browser.

When the number is above 99, it shows **99+**. The number refreshes about once a minute, and it drops once the Inbox has marked items read. When nothing is waiting, no number is shown.

Invitations are counted per browser. Opening the Inbox in a browser records the invitations you have seen there, so they stop being counted in that browser. Another browser or device counts them again until you open the Inbox there too.

## When an item seems to be missing

- **You are in another workspace.** Check the workspace name under the **Inbox** heading.
- **It was about something that has finished.** Items leave the Inbox when what they asked for is handled. For example, a seat request leaves everyone's Inbox once it has been answered or withdrawn.
- **It was sent to someone else.** A notice a teammate sent to another person is not in your Inbox.
- **The list is long.** Select **Show older** at the bottom of the page to load older items.

If you see **You're all caught up.**, nothing is listed in the selected workspace and no invitation is waiting for you. Check the workspace name before you assume nothing was sent.

## When the number does not clear

- Make sure you are in the workspace whose number you are reading. The unread items are counted for that workspace only. Invitations are added in every workspace, so they stay in the number when you switch.
- Open the Inbox. Unread items are marked read when the page shows them.
- An invitation that arrived after you last opened the Inbox in this browser is counted until you open the Inbox there.
- Wait a minute. The number refreshes about once a minute, so it can lag behind the page.

The web Inbox has no button to dismiss an item or clear the number. Items are marked read by opening the Inbox, and they leave the list only when what they were about is finished.
