# How do I change or delete a project?

Change a project's name, description, instructions, visibility or connectors in its settings. Deleting a project keeps its chats, files and tasks, but hides the memories saved in it.

Each project has a settings window where you change how it is set up. The same window has the **Delete project** button. These steps show both.

## Change a project's settings

On the web app:

1. Open the project from **Projects** in the sidebar.
2. Click **Settings** at the top right of the project page.
3. Change what you need: **Name**, **Description**, **Project instructions**, **Who can see this project** (in a shared workspace only), or **Integrations and connectors**.
4. Click **Save**.

On the phone app:

1. Open the project from **Projects** on Home.
2. Tap the sliders button at the top right of the project page. Its label is **Project settings**.
3. Change what you need, then tap **Save**.

A project name must be unique in its workspace, and capital letters do not count, so a second project cannot be called the same as an existing one. A name can be up to 120 characters, a description up to 2,000, and project instructions up to 8,000.

For what visibility means and what happens to items when it changes, see [Who can see a project?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/projects-and-memory/project-visibility.md). For the integrations and connectors choice, see [What is a project?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/projects-and-memory/what-is-a-project.md).

## Who can change a project

- **The person who created the project** can change all of its settings.
- **A project shared with everyone in the workspace** can also be changed by the workspace owner and admins. They cannot change who can see it.
- **A project only you can see** can be changed only by you.
- **A team member without a paid seat** can see projects but cannot change or delete them. See [What can a member without a seat do?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/team/members-and-seats/what-a-member-without-a-seat-can-do.md)

If you cannot change a project, the **Settings** button is not shown on the web. On the phone, the settings button is not shown either.

## Delete a project

On the web app:

1. Open the project and click **Settings**.
2. In the footer of the **Project settings** window, click **Delete project**.
3. In the **Delete “Project name”?** box, click **Delete project** again to confirm. To keep the project, click **Keep project** instead.

On the phone app:

1. Open the project and tap the sliders button at the top right.
2. Scroll to the **Delete** section at the bottom and tap **Delete project**.
3. Tap **Delete project** in the alert to confirm. To keep the project, tap **Keep project**.

After you delete a project on the web, you go back to the **Projects** list. On the phone, you go back to Home.

## What happens to your work

Deleting a project does not delete its chats, files or tasks.

- **Chats, files and tasks are kept.** They leave the project and become ungrouped, so they show outside any project. Each keeps the visibility it has at that moment. A chat stops being pinned inside the project.
- **Items that followed the project's visibility stop following it.** From then on they keep their own visibility, and changing the project no longer changes them.
- **Memories saved in the project are hidden.** They no longer show on the Memory page, no chat can use them, and nobody can edit them. The exception is a memory a teammate saved privately in the project: it leaves the project and stays theirs, and they can still see and change it. See [What does Bluedeer remember, and how do I edit or delete it?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/projects-and-memory/what-bluedeer-remembers.md)
- **The project's instructions and its list of integrations and connectors stop applying.** The project no longer exists to hold them.
- **The name becomes available again.** You can create a new project with the same name.

The app has no button to bring back a deleted project. If you are not sure, change the project's name or settings instead. Nothing else is lost that way.
