# How do I rename, move or delete a file?

Use a file's menu in the File manager to rename it, move it to a folder or delete it, and know who is allowed to do each.

These steps are for the web app. You need edit access to a file to rename or move it.

## Rename a file

1. Choose **Rename** from the file's menu.
2. In the **Rename file** window, change the **File name**.
3. Click **Rename**.

## Move a file

Choose **Move to folder** from the file's menu, then pick the folder. See [Organise files with folders](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/files/organise-with-folders.md).

## Delete a file

1. Choose **Delete** from the file's menu, or select files and click **Delete** in the bar above the list.
2. In the **Delete** window, click **Delete**.

Deleting a file is permanent. If the file has more than one version, the window lists the versions and lets you tick only the ones you want to delete. See [How do I see earlier versions of a file?](https://support.bluedeer.ai/bluedeer/files/file-version-history.md)

## Who can do this in a team

In a team workspace, members can delete and share only the files they created. Team admins and the owner can manage any file. Viewers can open files but cannot delete them.
