# What happens to my message if it does not send?

What you see when a message is refused or fails, how your text, files and pasted texts come back to the message box, and how long a draft is kept.

Sending a message usually takes a moment. Your message appears in the chat right away with **Sending…** under it. If it does not go through, Bluedeer gives your message back to you, so you can change it and send it again.

These steps are for the web app.

## If the message is refused straight away

Sometimes Bluedeer cannot start the message at all, for example because another message is still being sent, because the chat changed while you were writing, or because a temporary chat has expired. Then:

- Your text, files and pasted texts come back into the message box.
- A short reason appears in red above the box.

Read the reason, then send again when it is ready.

## If the message is refused after it was sent

Sometimes the message starts to send and then is refused. Then:

- The message stays in the chat with **Not sent.** under it. If Bluedeer gives a reason, it follows the words.
- Your text, files and pasted texts come back into the message box, and a notice above the box says **Your message couldn't be sent. Your draft has been restored.**
- If you had started typing something new in the meantime, the restored text goes in front of it. Nothing you typed is lost.

Check what is in the box, then send again. The new send takes the place of the message marked **Not sent.**, so the chat does not show it twice.

## If the reply fails

The message you sent is not the only thing that can fail. When Bluedeer's reply fails, the reply itself is shown in red with one of these titles:

- **Message failed**: the reply could not be written. The reason is shown under the title. If no reason is given, it says **Unable to get a response. Please try again.**
- **Message too long**: the message is too long for the AI model to read at once. Shorten it, or split it into several messages.

If part of the reply was already written, that part stays in the chat. Under it you see **This response didn't finish.** with the reason, or **Something went wrong before it was done. Please try again.** when no reason is given.

A reply that a plan limit stopped can also carry an **Upgrade plan** button. What that button opens, and when limits start over, is explained in [Check your usage and what happens at a limit](https://support.bluedeer.ai/plans-and-billing/general/check-your-usage-and-limits.md).

## Your draft: how long it is kept

A draft is what you have typed, attached or pasted in the message box but not yet sent.

- **Switching chats:** the draft waits in the chat you left, and it is there when you come back. This works for as long as the browser tab stays open.
- **Reloading the page or closing the tab:** drafts are cleared, including any files and pasted texts. Drafts are held in the browser's memory only. They are not saved to your account, so they do not follow you to another computer.
- **Many drafts:** the browser keeps up to 24 drafts at a time. When there are more, the draft you changed longest ago is dropped.
- **Sent messages:** once a message is sent, its draft is cleared from the box. If it is refused, the draft comes back as described above.

If a message is important, copy it somewhere safe before you reload the page or close the tab.
