# How do I set custom instructions for Bluedeer?

Write a custom system prompt in Settings, under AI & Chat, to tell Bluedeer how you want it to answer.

Custom instructions tell Bluedeer how to answer you, for example the tone, the length of answers, or the language. They are stored for your account, not for one chat.

These steps are for the web app.

## Set custom instructions

1. Open **Settings** from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar.
2. Choose the **AI & Chat** tab.
3. Under **Custom System Prompt**, click **Edit**.
4. Write your instructions, then click **Save**. To leave the text as it was, click **Cancel**.

When you save instructions, the setting shows **Custom System Prompt Active**. Until then, it shows **Default Personality**, described as "Helpful, concise, and direct".

## What to write

Describe how you want answers to look and what you want Bluedeer to focus on. For example: "Answer in short bullet points. Use British spelling. When I ask for code, explain it briefly after the code block."
